Hey guys, sorry i havent post in a while...one, i was waiting for people to do the activity on my last post...but no one ever did...and two...i went to my Aunts for a couple days. We got a new van...if you want info,my brother will probably give the specific info on his blog (jsntaylor.blogspot.com).
anyway, tomorrow is goin to be fun. for youth, we're going swimming in the leisure centre at 3:00 PM.
Before i left for my aunts, a couple days before, i went to the pond and found a jackpot place, full of amazing rocks. it was a good day, i was happy with what i found. im so anxious to get my camera bac working so i could show you my findings. :) When i was theere, my mom actually fel asleep in the grass XD its a nice peaceful area. i wanna camp out there sometimes in the summer. :)
The other day i managed to chisle some garnet out of some garnet schist.
Garnet is a reddish gemstones, and for those whoses birthdays are in January, that would be your birthstone. To see what your birthstone is, i have a picture on my blog on the right side of the birthstone chart. Comment me your birthstone. :) thats the challenge for today.
this one should be easier...that last challenge i guess wasnt very successful. im trying to find a geologist to follow my blog, with other people my age who want to be geologist to follow my blog so that they could enjoy it.
Anyway, i almost forgot, we're still on granite. Today, i will introduce you to another strange, yet totally cool granite, that is not reconized by its color, but by its patteren aswell.
Remember that if you want a better view of the picture, just click on it. This is Rapakivi granite.
Term:
Rapakivi granite is a hornblende-biotite granite containing large rounded crystals of orthoclase mantled with oligoclase. The name has come to be used most frequently as a textural term where it implies plagioclase rims around orthoclase in plutonic rocks. Rapakivi is Finnish for "crumbly rock", because the different heat expansion coefficients of the component minerals make exposed rapakivi crumbly.
